Polarized Bifocal Sunglasses
Polarized bifocal sunglasses - and what they're good for:
Polarized bifocal sunglasses are sunglasses whose glasses offer two different correction zones for your eyesight, one to see nearby objects and one to see farther away, combined in one single pair of sunglasses. This is especially practical for presbyopes who need this type of eyeglasses already indoors and who want to go hiking, wandering or doing outdoor sports such as skiing or surfing. More information about bifocal glasses in general.
As they are polarized they are great to do outside sports because polarization puts up a filter that reduces strong glare from straight surfaces such as the water, a snowy landscape or simply the road when you're driving!
How does that work? Well, generally speaking glare which disturbs us outside is produced by light reflecting solely horizontally from a surface such as the road or the water and thereby concentrating and becoming brighter. This type of horizontal light is filtered out by the mirror coating on polarized sunglasses and thereby allows you to see clearly and colorfully without the glare. This is a great way to improve your security while doing sports or driving in the summer or the winter, when the snow reflects the light. (However if you're skiing downslope you shouldn't wear polarized sunglasses as this keeps you from identifying dangerous patches of ice on the road downwards.
There are moments when you don't want to wear polarized sunglasses, such as when you're looking at LCD displays (GPS, cellphone, etc) or when you're pilot looking at his cockpit controls, but mostly they're a great accessory to improve your comfort and keep you from getting a bad headache from all that glaring light.
One very popular use of polarized bifocals is reading on the beach! It keeps you from making ugly faces because of all the light and at the same time allows you to read in all clarity due to the lower correction zone which is specifically made to focus on text in magazines or books! Imagine all those long hours you can read on the beach with such sunglasse without tiring or hurting your eyes, while your kids are playing in the water! Moreover, it's a great way to keep a lookout after them to see what they're up to. If you would like to see some polarized sunglasses that even have magnification built in, have a look at Gatorz sunglasses.
